At Fox Glacier Guiding, we work hard to try to create an environment where our people love to come to work. It’s a family kind of environment and although we work hard, we also have a lot of fun. We’re a close knit team, working together in a small town and we’re passionate about the product we deliver and the environment we work and play in.
We consider that happy staff makes for happy customers and we try to make our friendly, down to earth, service experience a point of difference for our business.
Below are some photos and information on some of our team...

Rebecca Griffiths
/ Glacier Guide
Rebecca recently discovered that Fox Glacier was also a very special experience for her grandmother 60 years ago...
"In 1948 at the age of 20, my grandmother Jocelyn Perry visited the Fox Glacier on a guided walk. Back then the glacier was accessed from the Chalet Lookout track which still exists today. The chalet was used both as a stop off before heading onto the glacier, and as a turn around point for people not wanting to go further. After tea at the chalet Jocelyn, another client, and a guide Tom Watson headed down to the glacier. They had to climb over the moraine to reach the ice. Being her first trip to the Fox Glacier, she was spellbound by the scenery and beauty of the place. There were big ice caves and crevasses on the way up to the ice fall, which was further down the valley than it is today. They reached some ice pinnacles where they took photos from. Her photos of the glacier portray a glacier much larger than it is today.
Also during her brief stay at Fox Glacier, Jocelyn took in some more sights of the area. Her guide Tom Watson, took her up to the Alpine Gardens above the glacier, at 4,100ft where she met a kea who proudly showed her the bright orange/red colour under its wings. She also visited Lake Matheson to see the reflection of the mountains. They rowed around the lake in a boat.
It’s amazing to think that my grandma was at this very place seeing the same sights as me nearly 60 years ago. Who knows, maybe the same thing will happen to me in 60 years time!"
