Kia ora and welcome to Auckland District Health Board (ADHB)

Healthy Communities, Quality Healthcare

Our vision is one of a population full of healthy communities who have access to quality healthcare when they need it.

To achieve our vision ADHB has three key goals that guide all the decisions we make and the actions we take.

Our goals

• Lifting the health of people in Auckland City;
• Leading performance improvement;
• Living within our means.

Each year we make significant and consistent progress towards our organisational goals. Perhaps most significant is that we are ‘living within our means’, reporting a better than break-even result in 2008, while producing more health outputs, an increase in productivity, improvements in efficiency and better management of our waiting lists.

In order to lift the health of our population at ADHB, we see a District Health Board as being much more than just a hospital. We promote a ‘whole system’ approach which sees our focus broadened from simply the treatment and care of people in hospital, to prevention - keeping our population well. This means we provide the community with the education, resources and skills to help them live healthier lifestyles and in turn create a healthier Auckland.

We are also working towards the goal of ADHB becoming a reference site for other medical and professional colleagues, as well as District Health Boards, throughout New Zealand. We are taking part in a number of exciting innovations and developments which will help us to attain this objective.

We have achieved much but are still working to maximise the services we offer to the people of Auckland. We could not do this without our staff of over 9000 and I attribute our successes to each and every one of them.

Garry Smith
Chief Executive
